EXCLUSIVE: Princess Isabella of Denmark's STUNNING Appearance at 18th Birthday Concert in Copenhagen
The Danish Royal Family gathers to celebrate the King Frederik's oldest daughter's 18th birthday, Queen Mary wears pieces from Danish Ruby Parure
Princess Isabella of Denmark has made her mark on royal fashion, debuting a stunningly GORGEOUS gown for a 18th birthday concert held in her honor. Among those who gathered were her entire family and young people from around Denmark, who entered into a lottery for a chance to attend. Royal Fashion News was there to cover the event, so here’s a look at the Princess’ stunning dress.
Designed by Jesper Høvring, the ballgown evoked a sense of classic and elegant 1950s style. It’s easy to see Grace Kelly, the late Princess of Monaco, wearing a similar ensemble during her time as a muse for Alfred Hitchcock. In every stretch of the imagination, this is the ultimate Princess ensemble (though a tiara would have been absolute perfection).
There was also a large sequin detail on the back of the dress, which I’m not entirely sold on. However, her updo is wonderfully sophisticated.
It seems like the Princess was also able to wear some bling, both borrowed from her mother and personally owned. She wore her mother Queen Mary’s Bruun Rasmussen Diamond Pendant Earrings. Mary debuted the earrings for Prince Christian’s 18th birthday gala in 2023.
She included a small Love bracelet from Cartier in yellow gold (a birthday gift from her parents perhaps?) and one of the Connaught bangles, which have been passed down through female descendants of Princess Margaret of Connaught. There was also diamond and white gold bracelet on her other wrist, though its origins have not been identified.
Her shoes appeared to be 85 mm black satin stiletto. The maker is unclear, but likely Gianvito Rossi, which remains a favorite of Queen Mary and many other royal women.
Overall, Princess Isabella knocked it out of the park with this look, and was definitely the bell of the ball!
The rest of the Danish Royal Family did not disappoint! Queen Mary seemed to take some inspiration from the event for her look, as Her Majesty busted out a By Malene Birger outfit she first wore 18 years ago! She recently wore it again for a State Council Dinner in March 2024.
Personally, it’s not my favorite look and feels a bit dated and out of place compared to the rest of the family, who all wore shades of black and navy. But this look definitely shined in another way.
The real crown jewel of Queen Mary’s look was the Danish Ruby Parure! She wore the necklace, earrings, brooch and bracelet from the historic set, which was previously owned by Queen Ingrid and left to her grandson, now King Frederik. Not only does the piece look amazing in pictures, it is incredibly stunning in person! Always one of the biggest challenges when covering royal events is getting both pictures, videos AND trying to take a moment to appreciate the jewelry with your bare eyes. The Danish Ruby Parure, one of my all-time favorites, and was a dream to see in person.
Princess Josephine decided to refashion her outfit to Crown Prince Christian’s 18th Birthday Gala by bedazzling the inside of the sleeves and top of her dress. She paired it with some block heels.
The men of the family all looked dapper as well, though it’s clear that the youngest, Prince Vincent, is still growing into his suit. Crown Prince Christian appears to have slimmed down slightly after spending time in military training over the last couple of months.
Now onto some of the other royal guests!
Queen Margrethe looked lovely, though slightly frail, in purple and fur. The crowd was definitely happy to see Her Majesty emeritus, with huge cheers greeting her arrival. She did struggle to get up the stairs for a second, but managed to make it. Health concerns are part of the reason she decided to abdicate in favor of her son in her New Year’s Eve address in 2023.

Rounding up the royal appearances, we have Queen Margrethe’s younger sisters Queen Anne Marie of Greece (green) and Princess Benedikte. Given that all of them are now widows, it appears that the sisters are spending more time together. We also have Princess Benedikte’s son Prins Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and his wife Princess Carina. Rounding up the royal invites were Count Nikolai and Count Felix, who are Princess Isabella’s older cousins.
Overall, some magnificent looks and a magnificent night! Happy Birthday to Princess Isabella!
Such class and elegance
Lovely bit my favourite is Princess Josephine’s outfit! Wish I could wear something like that!
I wish Queen Mary had worn a different colour top, silver maybe.
But love the skirt and jewels.
